Team Overview

 

FMJ Racing are a young, up-and-coming Kiwi team of sailors who are committed to accomplishing their goal of becoming WMRT Champions.
 
After graduating the RNZYS Youth Training Programme the team was formed aiming to follow in the footsteps of BlackMatch after there 2009 WMRT victory.
 
FMJ Racing have developed an athletic and aggressive style of racing close, intense racing is what we thrive in.

 


 


 

 

William Tiller - Skipper

 
Will is the youngest talent to come out of New Zealand and take on the world. Will dominated the international youth match racing scene - winning 11 events over three years – including 2 wins at both the prestigious Governors Cup and Warren Jones Regattas.
 
Will is the youngest sailor to ever win NZ’s top keelboat prize, - the One Design Young 88 Nationals.
 
At age 21 he has competed in three WMRT events, gaining recognition for leading the fleet in the qualifying stage of Monsoon Cup 2011.

Brad Farrand - Mainsheet

 
Brad comes from a teams racing background where he has gained numerous national titles. He also competes on the Melges 32 circuit and is campaigning an F18 for the 2012 Long Beach World Championship.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Harry Thurston - Trimmer

 
Harry has worked at North Sails NZ for 3 years where he has gained a solid understanding of sail design and trim. With this knowledge he can quickly set up any sail and make it fast.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Jono Spurdle - Pitman



Jono is a building apprentice in Auckland, NZ where he trains with Emirates Team New Zealand in between match racing regattas. He races on the Farr 40 team Struntje Light as mastman. Jono thrives on the physical aspect of his position and is a huge asset to any team.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Shaun Mason - Bowman

 
As well as sailing on the match racing circuit with FMJ, Shaun competes in offshore racing and is a veteran of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart and the Auckland to Fiji race. He also manages and sails for the Living Doll campaign out of Melbourne, Australia.
